The instant of greatest eclipse takes place on 2449 Jun 06 at 20:39:59 TD (20:23:47 UT1). This is 5.8 days after the Moon reaches apogee. During the eclipse, the Moon is in the constellation Ophiuchus. The synodic month in which the eclipse takes place has a Brown Lunation Number of 6511.

The eclipse belongs to Saros 147 and is number 32 of 70 eclipses in the series. All eclipses in this series occur at the Moon’s descending node. The Moon moves northward with respect to the node with each succeeding eclipse in the series and gamma increases.

This is a very shallow total eclipse. It has an umbral eclipse magnitude of only 1.0957 and a duration of totality lasting 48.3 minutes. Gamma has a value of -0.4068.

The total lunar eclipse of 2449 Jun 06 is preceded two weeks earlier by a total solar eclipse on 2449 May 22.

These eclipses all take place during a single eclipse season.

Calendar

The Gregorian calendar (also called the Western calendar) is internationally the most widely used civil calendar. It is named for Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it in 1582.
